Synopsis

Kiwi author Michelle Holman stormed onto the bestsellers list with her debut novel Bonkers, she got the locals in Cambridge wearing stilettos with her second bestseller Divine, and now she's back and funnier than ever with Knotted.

Danny Lawton is sharp-tongued, fiery and occasionally blue-haired.  With no extended family to support her, she is struggling to look after her twin sister's orphaned children while working full-time in a busy North Shore emergency department.  Times are tough, but she is holding her own.  And she is determined to hold onto her own.  So when the children's paternal uncle, Ross Fabello, turns up unexpectedly from America with instructions to take the children back with him to meet their huge extended family, Danny marshalls all her wits and wiles for the fight of her life.

So it's game on for a titanic battle of the wills... and the most unfortunate, irresistible sexual attraction.  In this brilliantly funny and poignant tale of modern love and misadventure, the spoils of war are family.  And maybe, just maybe, something more.

About the Author

Michelle Holman's best selling first novel, Bonkers, was a comedic hit with women and men of all ages, as has been her second, Divine.

Originally from West Auckland, Michelle is a registered nurse who now manages community youth health projects in the Waikato.

Michelle writes her novels for people who are like her - who like a good romance but not slush, who appreciate what it is to be a Kiwi and how unique we alla re, and most importantly who like a good laugh.

Michelle says she doesn't know where the characters Danny and Ross came from - they just appeared one day in her head arguing while she was hanging washing on the line, producing the first of many slanging matches made up of great one-liners.  Then the eccentric Italian, Irish and Maori family members just fell into place around them, providing the perfect foils and inspirations for Danny and Ross's protracted warfare.

Review

Having just finished a couple of highly emotionally-charged and at times tragic books, I was ready for some light-hearted entertainment and Michelle Holman's latest novel delivered all that and more.

Knotted embodies everything I unashamedly enjoy about chic-lits: a feisty heroine; an infuriating yet irresistable hunk; a believable (albeit predictable) plot; tension and passion; and oodles of humour.

Michelle's writing is witty and refreshingly down-to-earth.  Her colourful characters reflect the multi-cultural makeup of New Zealand and could easily be your next-door-neighbours.  (Yes, even in the middle of suburbia our postage-stamped-sized section shares one of its boundaries with a farm - complete with goats that go baa in the night!  However, judging by the complete lack of paparazzi, I hazard a guess that we don't currently have any American celebrities visitting OUR neighbourhood.  But I digress...)

If you're looking for a great escape from the drudgery of work/housework then grab a copy of Knotted, a cuppa or a long cold glass of your favourite poison and tune out from the world around you.  I guaranteed you'll be laughing out loud in no time and hunger to read more.
